The steel base helps prevent wooden side poles from moving (or even falling) from under the stretch tent. Its vertical curve is pre-drilled with holes to fix the wooden side pole to the base (using the 6x screws supplied). In addition, the footplate itself includes pre-drilled holes to anchor it to a soft surface using pegs (Ø 27 mm) or a hard surface (Ø 7 mm).
Please note that while this steel base was originally designed for use with wooden side poles, it can also be used with Aluminium Pole Set side poles (see below).

Can it be used on the aluminium poles?
The steel base was originally designed for use with wooden side poles. The Aluminium Pole Set side poles would need to be drilled in order to fix it to the vertical curve section of the steel base.
